Governor Newsom: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

It’s not enough to hide behind talk of “fairness” while letting women’s rights be trampled across California

On the first episode of his new podcast, “This is Gavin Newsom,” the California Governor appeared to change his position on the issue of men and boys competing in women’s sports under the guise of “gender identity.” But while outlets like Politico are claiming Newsom “breaks with Democrats on trans athletes in sports,” the reality is that Newsom’s words are nothing but lip service as his state continues to trample all over women’s rights literally at this very moment.

Gov. Newsom claims to acknowledge the issue of fairness in women’s sports, but when pushed by podcast guest Charlie Kirk on if he would actually stand up and oppose males participating in these sports, he immediately fell back into the same tired trans-cult talking points.

“Completely fair on the issue of fairness,” Newsom said, “I completely agree. So that's easy to call out the unfairness of that. There's also a humility and a grace. You know that these poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety, and depression.”

As usual, the feelings of men and boys are put ahead of the needs of women and girls.

Although Newsom denied that he was equivocating simply because of the massive unpopularity of his position, it’s clear that the numbers are at play. The New York Times released a poll in January showing 80% of the general public (18+) is against “transgender” sports policies. In 2023, a WoLF poll found that California voters had swung a massive 20 points on the issue since 2020 — with voters overwhelmingly opposing such policies, especially on issues of single-sex spaces.

With Newsom looking out for his future career in politics, it’s clear he’s being forced to adjust his public persona to match the national sentiment.

But women will not forget what Gavin Newsom did as Governor, and what he continues to do (or not do) as the head of one of the most powerful states in the country.

When new executive orders directed the Department of Education to interpret Title IX on the basis of sex (rather than “gender identity”), multiple California institutions immediately declared that they would refuse to enforce the law, including the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), which governs high school sports, and California’s state superintendent of public instruction. Governor Newsom has done nothing to ensure Title IX is enforced in his state, despite rambling on about “fairness” on his little radio show.

When pressed further, Newsom refused to take accountability for what has happened to women’s spaces in California under his rule. He attempted to blame laws that were put in place before he took office, completely forgetting about the many “gender identity” laws he signed with his own hand — including the completely disastrous SB132 which put male rapists into women’s prisons. How is that “fair”?

Actions speak louder than words, Governor. We see you.

Take Action!

Tell Governor Newsom that women don’t want weak words — we want action!

Get men out of women’s sports.
Get men out of women’s prisons.
Protect women’s spaces.

Maybe then we’ll take your “change of heart” seriously.
