WoLF's Plaintiffs Describe Life Under SB 132

As part of the progression of WoLF's lawsuit opposing SB 132 (Chandler vs. CDCR) -  a law that places men into women’s prisons - WoLF obtained declarations containing sworn testimonies detailing how female inmates are affected by the implementation of SB 132.

Women’s Voices Are Not Being Heard

The state of California seeks to dismiss WoLF’s case opposing SB 132, ignoring repeated complaints of abuse from the women whom the state is supposed to rehabilitate and protect. Many of the men who have been relocated into the women’s prisons have been convicted of sexual assault. These men are continuing to commit abusive behavior once they are placed in women-only facilities.

Abuse & Violations are Occurring Right now.

Just last month, a horrifying incident was reported at the Central California Facility for Women (CCFW) correctional facility. Witnesses offered sworn statements about a trans-identified male reportedly raping one of the female inmates there. After the incident was reported, correctional officers allowed the reported perpetrator to remain on the yard instead of being removed for the women’s safety. The reported perpetrator then threatened to rape other female inmates.

Those who complain or report an incident are likely to be punished

In a prior incident, one of the plaintiffs who had been abused by a trans-identified male was further victimized by prison authorities when prison authorities attempted to psychologically manipulate her by saying that a female, not a male, had attacked her.

SB 132 has been a disaster since its inception, and women report that the quality of life in the prison has deteriorated since its implementation.

Women Deserve Protection in Prisons

WoLF is working tirelessly for its plaintiffs and has no intention of stopping, even though powerful and well-funded organizations such as the ACLU have signed on to further subjugate and marginalize women in prisons by placing men into their cells, public showers, and restrooms. Through its intervention in WoLF’s lawsuit, the ACLU has made it clear it supports defenseless women being housed with violent men. WoLF will continue to fight to protect these women, and try to create a better future for all incarcerated women.
