Fighting for Women in the Film Industry: WoLF Submits Petition to LAFCA

In October 2022, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) voted to terminate single-sex awards categories; this decision effectively dismantled women's opportunities to win career-changing awards. In response to the LAFCA decision, WoLF circulated a petition asking the public to show their support for women in the film industry. Over 300 signatories submitted additional comments as part of the petition; these women and men expressed their outrage about LAFCA’s decision.

On December 8, WoLF submitted the petition, which was signed by 712 concerned women and men around the world, to LAFCA’s president, Claudia Puig.

WoLF demanded that LAFCA share the full language of the petition, as well as the list of signatories, with the entire LAFCA membership. LAFCA is planning to hold another meeting to finalize its decision on December 11, 2022. WoLF asked Ms. Puig to respond to the petition and message. WoLF will keep its supporters and petition signatories updated about LAFCA’s response.
