Senator Introduces Bill to Block Biden From Moving Men Into Women’s Prisons
Incarcerated women deserve to serve their sentences safe from male violence!
On January 12, 2022, Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) introduced the Preventing Violence Against Female Inmates Act which would require the Bureau of Prisons to house federal prisoners by sex rather than by self-declared “gender identity.” It also would make eligibility for federal funding for states under the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act contingent on housing incarcerated people by sex rather than by self-declared “gender identity.” View the full text of the bill here.
Incarcerated Women to be Housed with Male Inmates
This bill was introduced in response to a leaked memo obtained by the Federalist regarding a proposed executive order by President Biden. This executive order would allow male inmates to determine their placement in a women’s or men’s facility based on a self-declaration of “gender identity,” a poorly defined and unscientific notion based on an individual’s ‘internal feelings’.
Women Are Collateral to ‘Gender Identity’ Ideology
Housing men—including sex offenders—with incarcerated women is unconstitutional and inhumane. Such policies have devastating impacts on the women subjected to them. Nowhere is this more apparent than in California, which has implemented SB 132 and now has hundreds of men requesting transfer to women’s facilities, nearly all of whom have intact penises.
WoLF rejects the notion of gender and gender identity as a regressive, misogynistic concept that threatens the hard-won rights of women and girls. For this reason and countless more, WoLF filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for civil rights violations of the incarcerated women in its custody—Now, Biden wants to implement these practices across the nation.
Polling has shown over and over again that the vast majority of voters do NOT want men housed with incarcerated women, regardless of how they identify. In fact, over three-fourths of American voters (77 percent) agree that male sex offenders or domestic abusers should not be housed in women’s prisons, regardless of how they identify.
