WoLF in the News: ‘Will New York Put Men in Women’s Prisons?’

A Wall Street Journal Op-Ed by Lauren Bone and Jennifer Braceras shines a spotlight on the problem with “gender identity” in prison

In a groundbreaking Wall Street Journal op-ed, Women's Liberation Front (WoLF) and Independent Women's Forum (IWF) joined forces to raise awareness of the dangers of gender identity policies in prisons. The op-ed, penned by Lauren Bone of WoLF and Jennifer Braceras of IWF, discusses how allowing men who identify as women to be housed in women's prisons compromises the safety, privacy, and dignity of incarcerated women.

The op-ed focuses on the recently-proposed New York Assembly Bill A709, which enacts the "gender identity respect, dignity and safety act":

“The bill would make it illegal to ‘discriminate’ against (i.e., deny transfers to) male prisoners who “identify” as women—even those incarcerated for sex crimes against women.  It would even prohibit correctional institutions from questioning the sincerity or motives behind a request to transfer and would allow offenders to move between men’s and women’s prisons without restriction.”

The Wall Street Journal op-ed is a significant milestone for WoLF and radical feminists, who have been largely denied mainstream platforms to discuss the harms of gender ideology to women for years. Especially important is the opportunity to share the stories of the incarcerated women who have already been harmed under similar policies in other states:

“In New Jersey, two female prisoners have become pregnant by a male inmate housed in the women’s prison after what corrections officials said were consensual relations. In California, there have been numerous reports of sexual assault by male offenders transferred to women’s facilities under a law similar to A709.”

WoLF is representing four female prisoners in California who are challenging that law on Constitutional grounds.
